Overview

The Medical Law Conference is the premier annual event for legal practitioners with a medical law focus.
The conference will be held Friday, 29 July 2016 at Dockside Convention Centre, Cockle Bay, Darling Harbour.

Program Highlights

  • The role of the Coroner, particularly with respect to deaths that result following medical treatment.
  • The treatment of acute limb ischaemia - problems build up over years as plaque builds up in the blood vessels in the legs, eventually blocking them off, but using “clot busting" drugs come with their risks.
  • The Perils and Pitfalls of Home Births - confusion in the legal fraternity about how midwives work and what level of autonomy they have.
  • Under The Knife: A Case of Negligence & Trespass in Cosmetic Surgery.
  • Hospital acquired infections, understanding their sources and how they spread.
  • Disciplinary matters involving health professionals.
  • Interactive Panel Discussion: Medical Claims: Sketching The Next Few Years. Bill Madden of Slater & Gordon and Julia Lonergan SC will discuss:
    • areas with potential for future litigation focus
    • Cases in the pipeline and
    • Issues left unresolved or uncertain from the cases already decided
