Overview

The NSW State Conference will be held on Friday 17 March 2017 at Dockside Convention Centre, Cockle Bay, Darling Harbour.

The speakers will be looking at 'Access To Justice' as a general theme in addition to our excellent Masterclasses and Annual Case Review.

The Keynote Address will be delivered by the The Hon. Justice Peter McClellan AM, Chair of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

This is a 1-day format with 2 streams, followed by a 3-course dinner in the Terrace Room at L'Aqua Restaurant, overlooking beautiful Cockle Bay.

The conference provides attendees with an excellent educational and networking opportunity as well as attracting up to 6 CLE/CPD points. It is attended by plaintiff and defendant lawyers as well as representatives of the various regulators and insurers.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

  • Justice for Victims of Child Sexual Abuse - The Ellis Defence and Sentencing Principles. Greens MP & Justice Spokesperson David Shoebridge will discuss proposed changes to NSW law to overturn the Ellis Defence to sue the Catholic Church and make it possible for victims to sue the Church and to update the sentencing practice to reflect current social and legal understandings of child sexual abuse.
  • Richard Williams of the QLD Bar will take us through Statutory wills – what are they, and when might an application be warranted?
  • David Baran of Jack Shand Chambers explains why you Don’t Settle Without Knowing the DSS Payback and Preclusion Period!
  • CTP Insurance Scheme Reform: The Motor Accident Injuries Bill 2017 - Andrew Stone SC.
