Precedent Free to members, our bi-monthly journal Precedent is essential reading for lawyers and other professionals keen to keep up to date with developments in legal policy and the law. Conferences and events

Conferences and events

The Australian Lawyers Alliance is a leading national provider of Continuing Legal Education/Continuing Professional Development (CLE/CPD). Our professional development calendar includes events such as:

  • An annual national conference
  • Annual branch conferences in each state and the ACT
  • Quarterly seminars
  • Workshops on the latest developments in the law

Our events are among the most affordable CLE/CPD events available in Australia and are scheduled regularly to keep our members up to date on developments in the law and legal practice. Australian Lawyers Alliance events cover a wide range of topics and feature leading practitioners from the legal profession, educational institutions and expert witnesses.

In addition to accruing CLE/CPD credits, our professional development program offers members the opportunity to extend their business networks and forge relationships with other professionals.

While most events are open to non-members, Alliance members benefit from substantial discounts for all events.

Expert database

Expert database

All members of the Australian Lawyers Alliance have access to our database of more than 450 expert witnesses and services. This database includes only the names of individuals and firms that have been recommended by members.

Members can obtain lists of experts in specified fields by contacting the Member Services Officer using our Online Enquiry Form. We endeavour to reply to expert database requests within two business days by return email or facsimile.

Please note that because this service relies fully on the recommendations of members, geographical coverage may not always be comprehensive.

Members are encouraged to recommend experts with whom they have worked so that our database remains relevant and up to date. To recommend an expert, members should contact the Member Services Officer using our Online Enquiry Form.

Members can also contact other members through our online database in the Member's Only section of the website.

Special Interest Groups

Special Interest Groups

Special Interest Groups (SIGs) promote the development of expertise in particular areas. SIGs provide a focus for education, exchange of information, development of materials, events and networking. Joining a SIG is a free benefit for Australian Lawyers Alliance members.

SIGs also meet at our national and state conferences and cover areas such as workers' compensation, criminal law, public liability, motor vehicle accidents, professional negligence and women's justice.

The Australian Lawyers Alliance provides an email list for each SIG to facilitate the exchange of information between members who share particular areas of interest.

A valuable supplement to other services available to Alliance members, these lists allow you to keep in touch with other practitioners in the field, participate in discussions relating to your area and access specialists and leaders in the field - improving your ability to better represent your clients.

Policy and lobbying

Policy and lobbying

The Australian Lawyers Alliance has a public affairs team, which promotes our policies through publications, the electronic media and detailed policy submissions to parliamentary and other public inquiries. The team monitors media coverage of current legal issues and seeks to promote the organisation's view of justice and individual rights in these public debates.

The Australian Lawyers Alliance draws its policy strength from its members. The public affairs team draws on this deep resource to provide experienced expert commentary on particular legal issues as they emerge and develop.
