Access to offenders’ superannuation for victims and survivors of child sexual abuse

15 February 2023

The ALA made a submission earlier this year to The Treasury’s consultation on access to offenders’ superannuation for victims and survivors of child sexual abuse. The Treasury sought time to review all submissions before providing authorisation for publication by stakeholders, given the nature of the subject matter.

In our submission, the ALA provided a number of deidentified case studies to demonstrate how many victims and survivors of child sexual abuse are currently locked out of accessing the justice and compensation they deserve. Further, the ALA responded and offered a number of amendments to The Treasury’s two draft proposals, which aim to allow victims and survivors of child sexual abuse access to the superannuation of offenders for unpaid compensation orders.
