Aviation Green Paper
29 November 2023
The ALA has made a submission to the federal government consultation on its Aviation Green Paper, which will inform the Aviation White Paper that sets the policy direction for the aviation sector through to 2050.
The ALA makes 14 key recommendations in our submission, including creating a Passenger Bill of Rights; creating an Australian regulatory flight delay compensation scheme; legislation indemnifying physical and psychological injury in sexual assault cases on board international and domestic flights; and that ‘psychiatric injury’ on board domestic flights be made compensable under the Civil Aviation (Carriers’ Liability) Act 1959 (Cth).
The ALA’s submission is endorsed in full by the Public Interest Advocacy Centre (now, the Justice and Equity Centre) whose submission we have supported on the issue of disability access in travel. The Sexual Assault Support Service has also endorsed our submission’s call for entitlement to compensation for ‘psychiatric injury’ in aircraft accidents and liability for sexual assault on aircraft.
