Open letter – Every Queenslander deserves equal protection under the law

21 March 2025

The Queensland Government recently announced that the implementation of reforms to Queensland’s anti-discrimination laws, which were passed by Queensland Parliament last year, will be deferred.

Those reforms align with the recommendations of the 2020 Respect@Work Inquiry and the 2022 Building Belonging Report, both of which identified clear gaps in Queensland’s legal framework that leave individuals exposed to workplace harassment and discrimination.

The ALA has signed an open letter urging the Queensland Government to implement the anti-discrimination reforms as scheduled on 1 July 2025, in the interests of ensuring safe and respectful workplaces in Queensland, as well as to give clarity and confidence in legal standards for employees and employers alike.
