The adequacy of the legislative framework for the Independent Broad based Anti-corruption Commission

15 July 2025

The ALA made a submission to the Victorian Parliament’s Integrity and Oversight Committee (‘Committee’) as part of the Committee’s inquiry into the adequacy of the legislative framework for Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission (IBAC).

In our submission, which was endorsed by Liberty Victoria, the ALA has provided analysis of and recommendations regarding:

  • IBAC’s jurisdiction and activities;
  • the legislative definitions in the Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission Act 2011 (Vic); and
  • transparency of IBAC’s activities, namely public examinations criteria and Freedom of Information exemptions.
