Workers Compensation Legislation Amendment Bill 2025
22 July 2025
The ALA has made a submission to the Parliament of NSW's Public Accountability and Works Committee (Committee) regarding the Workers Compensation Legislation Amendment Bill 2025 (Bill).
In our submission, the ALA has provided analysis and feedback on the overall financial sustainability of the NSW workers compensation scheme; claims management within the scheme; and the specific provisions of the Bill.
We also made a number of key recommendations, including that a full and comprehensive review into case management should be undertaken with a small package of reforms passed to improve the NSW Workers Compensation Scheme in the meantime.
Shane Butcher and David Jones gave further evidence to the Committee on behalf of the ALA's NSW Branch Workers Compensation Subcommittee at the Committee's public hearing on Tuesday 29 July 2025.
The Public Accountability and Works Committee held a public hearing on 7 October 2025 as part of its inquiry into the Bill. ALA spokespersons Shane Butcher and Shaun Marcus appeared and gave evidence.
