Independent Review of the Workers’ Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003 and the Industrial Relations Act 2016

29 May 2026

The ALA has provided a submission to the Queensland Government’s independent review of the Workers’ Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003 and the Industrial Relations Act 2016.

In its submission, the ALA argued that Queensland’s workers’ compensation scheme remains strong, sustainable and effective, and that there is no evidence-based case for wholesale reform.

The ALA emphasised the importance of preserving full access to common law rights for injured workers and cautioned against following restrictive approaches adopted in other jurisdictions.

The Committee Report is expected in the latter half of 2026.
