The need for new approaches to criminal justice – A therapeutic response webinar

Overview

The ALA has partnered with the Centre for Innovative Justice and the Justice Reform Initiative to host a three-part webinar series exploring innovative ways to respond to criminal offending. Part one will be held on Monday 16 November 2020, part two and three will be held in early 2021.

Please join us for the first session which will focus on the need for new approaches to criminal justice. In this webinar, Magistrate Pauline Spencer from the Magistrates’ Court of Victoria will discuss approaches to therapeutic jurisprudence in criminal justice. She will be joined by former NSW Mental Health Commissioner John Feneley, providing his insights into the challenges around imprisoning people with mental illness, and former NSW Director of Public Prosecutions Nicholas Cowdery AO QC, discussing the importance of drug law reform.

All three webinars are designed to critically examine the criminal justice system, and stimulate conversation about smarter justice options and alternative approaches.
