Overview

The ALA invites you to the Pleadings and Causation breakfast seminar on 1 June. Hear from leading barristers Cate Heyworth-Smith QC and Kevin Holyoak.

The seminar will cover:

- Psychiatric injury cases, such as Greenway;

- Pleading causation in work-related injury cases, including in cases with allegations relating to failure to warn or train;

- The importance of the the Civil Liability Act (and equivalent WCRA provisions) when drafting pleadings; and

- How to overcome evidentiary issues when the plaintiff is unable to give evidence.

This seminar is not to be missed by practitioners specialising in personal injury or interested in practising in that area, Delegates will be provided with a hot breakfast and will also be able to claim up to 1.5 CLE points.

Cate Heyworth-Smith QC, Barrister, Chambers 33

Cate Heyworth-Smith QC is an experienced civil and commercial barrister practising in areas including insurance, financial services litigation, personal injuries, insolvency, commercial property, equity, estates and trusts, and intellectual property. She has a special interest in the use of equitable remedies in commercial matters and their effect in insolvency, and in civil trials involving serious issues of credit or fraud.

Kevin Holyoak, Barrister, Callinan Chambers

Kevin's practise has a strong focus on insurance work and all allied areas including statutory and equitable issues. He has been in private practise as a barrister in Brisbane since 1991.

Kevin is briefed by a number of law firms that act for commercial insurers, and also is briefed by Crown Law. Kevin has an interest in veterans entitlements and is interested in developing his practise in that respect also.
