Overview


The calculation of damages in a dependency claim is a complicated exercise with many aspects not clearly defined in the standard texts. Join Michael Lee and Gerard Mullins for a back to basics review of the general principles, including tips on how to negotiate the difficult aspects of calculating these damages. .

Speakers

Gerard Mullins
Darrow Chambers

Gerard Mullins is a barrister from Queensland. He was admitted to practice in 1988 and has practised at the private bar since that time.

He has a Bachelor of Laws from the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and a Master of Laws from the University of Queensland. He lectured and tutored in tort law in the Bachelor of Law course at QUT between 1991 and 1998 and also lectured in the Masters program at QUT.

He has served as a part-time member of the Queensland Anti-Discrimination Tribunal and was Chair of the Australian Consumer Law Committee of the Law Council of Australia between 2009 and 2011.

Michael has over 22 years’ experience as a forensic accountant.
His primary area of expertise is the calculation of economic loss resulting from personal injury and death.
He is the author of numerous papers on the assessment of damages.
