Overview

The Victorian WorkCover scheme has experienced plenty of change in recent times, and more might be on the way.

In this webinar, hear from the Minister for Workplace Safety, Ingrid Stitt MP regarding the Labor Government’s reform agenda to support injured workers and create mentally healthy and safe workplaces for every Victorian.

This address will be followed by ALA WorkCover representatives discussing recent changes in workers’ compensation and our ongoing advocacy. The panel will deliver an update on the Victorian WorkCover scheme, COVID-19 responses and select case law from experts in the industry.

Ingrid Stitt MP, Minister for Workplace Safety and Early Childhood, Victoria Government

Ingrid Stitt was elected to the Victorian Legislative Council at the 2018 state election, representing the Western Metropolitan Region. She is the Minister for Workplace Safety and the Minister for Early Childhood in the Andrews Labor Government.

Ingrid is committed to making all Victorian workplaces safer and ensuring that every worker makes it home to their loved ones at the end of each day, in her role as Minister for Workplace Safety.

As Minister for Early Childhood, she is passionate about education as the great leveler and is proud to continue the Government’s rollout of three-year-old kinder across Victoria.

Prior to entering Parliament, Ingrid devoted her working life to fighting for low paid workers across the private and community sectors. As Secretary of the Victorian Branch of the Australian Services Union between 2004 -2018, Ingrid advocated for secure and safe work for her members in some of Australia’s largest private sector companies.

Lachlan Fitch, Principal, Maurice Blackburn Lawyers and Victoria President, Australian Lawyers Alliance

Lachlan is a Principal Lawyer at Maurice Blackburn Lawyers. He is an accredited specialist in personal injury law and the author of the WorkCover chapter for the Lawyers Practice Manual. He shares the WorkCover representative role on the ALA committee and is the current Victoria President of Australian Lawyers Alliance.

James Casey, Lawyer, Arnold Dallas Mcpherson Injury Lawyers

James Casey predominately works in WorkCover and TAC cases, where he helps people suffering from work-related sickness or injury or car accidents to get the justice, compensation and support they need and deserve.

James has over 14 years’ experience and has acted for thousands of injured Victorians in pursuing compensation for their Workplace and Transport Accident injuries. He prides himself on achieving excellent results as soon as feasibly possible so to help his clients best move on after injury.

James has significant expertise in pursuing claims for illnesses such as mesothelioma, silicosis and other workplace lung related illnesses.

Jenny Forti, Partner, Gordon legal

Jenny is a Partner at Gordon Legal and an accredited specialist in personal injury law. Along with representing clients to get the compensation they deserve, Jenny has given back to her community by volunteering at WEstJustice Community Legal Centre and being a board member of the Western Health Foundation.
