Justice
The Australian Lawyers Alliance advocates for equality and non-discrimination.
We promote access to justice and equality before the law for all individuals, regardless of their wealth, gender, sexuality, age, ability, race, or religious belief.
Differential treatment of people by the law in a democratic society should only be used sparingly, and not for the purposes for reducing the principle of equality before the law.
We believe that:
- discrimination has a prejudicial effect on individuals' lives and should not be tolerated;
- legal protections protecting individuals and groups against discrimination and hate speech based on race, colour, descent, or national or ethnic origin must be upheld; and
- the right to marriage is a right of all people, and should not be afforded only to people in a heterosexual relationship.
We value immensely the right of the individual to personal autonomy in their lives, and to equal treatment under the law.
