Overview
The Australian Lawyers Alliance ACT Branch Conference will be held Friday 19 September 2014 at QT, Canberra.
This year's conference will focus on the nuts and bolts issues designed to boost Canberra lawyers in their practice.
Program Highlights include
- Keynote address by the new Chief Justice, Helen Murrell
- Tips and trips in the motor accidents minefield
- Master David Mossop on offers of compromise, and how to win cases and influence judges
- Understanding psychological tests administered for reports
- Working with Lifetime Care and Catastrophic schemes
- Ethics update and Annual Case Review
The ACT Human Rights Act is frequently used in criminal matters but rarely used in civil matters.There is a direct right of action against ACT public authorities under the Human Rights Act.
Sean Costello from the Human Rights Commission and Noor Blumer, who acts for the Human Rights and Discrimination Commissioner from time-to-time, are putting their heads together to provide practical examples of when and how the Human Rights Act can be used to enhance civil actions.
The conference attracts up to 6 CLE/CPD points and is attended by plaintiff and defendant lawyers as well as representatives of the various regulators and insurers.
