QLD Annual Case Review Nov 2018

Overview

Get prepared for 2019 with a comprehensive overview of recent developments in case law.

At the highly anticipated and final breakfast seminar for the year, you’ll hear a summary on local, practical and procedural issues in Queensland. Analysing legislation and cases handed-down by the High Court and state Courts of Appeal over the preceding year, leading barristers Richard Douglas QC and Gerard Mullins contribute on their areas of expertise by way of comment, analysis and critique.

Important developments in pleading and disclosure that impact on all personal injuries cases will be discussed, such as the decisions in Carswell v KBRV Resort Operations Pty Ltd [2017] QSC 239 and Zavodny v Couper & QBE [2018] QSC 23.

Richard Douglas QC
Callinan Chambers

Richard Douglas was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2013. He practises in Queensland and interstate in civil trial and appellate advocacy, with associated advisory practice.

His areas of speciality are insurance, common law and statutory liability, commercial law, commercial vendor and purchaser law, real property and statutory confiscation of criminal profits. He has a particular expertise in statutory proportionate liability in economic loss and property damage cases.

He has appeared in many of the leading cases construing the MAIA/WCRA/PIPA pre-procedural and Ipp civil liability legislation of Queensland.


Gerard Mullins
Darrow Chambers

Gerard Mullins is a barrister from Queensland. He was admitted to practice in 1988 and has practised at the private bar since that time.

He has a Bachelor of Laws from the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and a Master of Laws from the University of Queensland. He lectured and tutored in tort law in the Bachelor of Law course at QUT between 1991 and 1998 and also lectured in the Masters program at QUT.

He has served as a part-time member of the Queensland Anti-Discrimination Tribunal and was Chair of the Australian Consumer Law Committee of the Law Council of Australia between 2009 and 2011.
