QLD Pleadings Workshop

Overview

Hear four experienced counsel workshop a common pleading scenario.

This half-day seminar will cover the legislative and structural framework for a pleading, general issues on breach, causation issues and common mistakes in pleadings.

This will be a practical workshop working through a pleading and discussing the do’s and don't's of pleadings, with opportunity for discussion with delegates throughout the workshop.

Registration commences from 1:45pm and there will be light snacks served on arrival, just in case you missed lunch. So make sure to arrive early.

Legal practitioners, in all practice areas, should attend our most interactive workshop to date!

Speakers

Janice Crawford
Halsbury Chambers

Janice holds degrees in nursing and law with post-graduate qualifications in both fields. Janice’s nursing background included many years working in adult mental health both clinically and managerially. Her main areas of legal interest are criminal law, inquests, professional and medical negligence and personal injuries law. Janice also has a particular interest in children’s legal issues including juvenile justice and the child witness.

Janice has been in private practice as a barrister based in Brisbane since 2011.

Gerard Mullins
Darrow Chambers

Gerard Mullins is a barrister from Queensland. He was admitted to practice in 1988 and has practised at the private bar since that time.

He has a Bachelor of Laws from the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and a Master of Laws from the University of Queensland. He lectured and tutored in tort law in the Bachelor of Law course at QUT between 1991 and 1998 and also lectured in the Masters program at QUT.

He has served as a part-time member of the Queensland Anti-Discrimination Tribunal and was Chair of the Australian Consumer Law Committee of the Law Council of Australia between 2009 and 2011.

Susan Anderson
Chambers 33

Susan conducts a general civil practice focusing on dispute resolution both in and out of court. In addition to her wide civil practice, Susan acts for commercial clients in criminal and quasi criminal matters. Susan has a particular interest in property law issues and psychiatric injuries.

Kevin Holyoak
Callinan Chambers

Kevin's practise has a strong focus on insurance work and all allied areas including statutory and equitable issues. He has been in private practise as a barrister in Brisbane since 1991.

Kevin is briefed by a number of law firms that act for commercial insurers, and also is briefed by Crown Law. Kevin has an interest in veterans' entitlements and is interested in developing his practise in that respect also.

  • Upon exiting the downhill ramp from Novotel Brisbane Hotel, you will find yourself back on Creek St
  • Take the first left into Wharf St
  • Next left into Astor Tce
  • Final left into Cousins Lane. Once in Cousins Lane, proceed down the hill and turn left again and the Car Park entrance will be directly in front of you.

Car parking will incur a daily fee of $35 per car per night Monday to Thursday night and $25 per car per night Friday to Sunday night. This discounted rate is only available to Novotel Brisbane hotel guests when they validate the ticket at Reception and enables multiple entries as well.
