Overview

This will be an interactive plaintiff lawyer seminar with a panel of 4 barristers that practice almost exclusively in this area. Attending lawyers will be encouraged to raise challenges that have confronted their practice in CTP claims for open discussion with the panel. Recent procedural decisions will be discussed, including but not limited to Douglas v Morgan, Moro v Parvizzi, Hobby v Peel.

Attendance is FREE for members but online registration is essential. Non-members are welcome to join for the small fee of $25.

Josephine Atkins

SA Bar Association

Josephine Atkins was admitted as a Practitioner in 1987 and immediately began working for plaintiffs in the area of personal injuries, an area which she has never really left.

Josephine joined the Bar in 2003 and practices predominantly in major injury motor vehicle accident claims and medical negligence, including representing Danielle Chadwick for almost 10 years in the matter of Chadwick v Allen.

Over 30 years Josephine has seen many changes to the assessment of personal injury claims, but is currently frustrated and extremely concerned by what she believes to be the injustices of the current legislative scheme and the under compensation of injured parties.

David Blyth,

Barrister, Anthony Mason Chambers

David is a barrister practising at Anthony Mason Chambers.

He accepts briefs in the fields of injury and insurance law, and commercial and estate disputes. He regularly appears in all State and Federal jurisdictions, acting for both plaintiffs and defendants.

David often speak at seminars, conferences and continuing professional development sessions around Australia.

David is a current member of the South Australian Bar Association and Crash Seminar Organising Committee. He is the former treasurer of the John Bray Law Alumni Network and has served on numerous committees for the Law Society of South Australia

Maria Demosthenous,

Anthony Mason Chambers

Maria is a barrister at Anthony Mason Chambers and is also a presiding member of SACAT. Maria accepts briefs in personal injury, medical insurance, worker’s compensation, employment and estate litigation.

Maria is a member of the Australian Lawyers Alliance and is representative on its SA committee.

Michael James Kernot,

Barrister, Carrington Chambers Barristers

Michael James Kernot was admitted to the Supreme Court of South Australia in 1976 followed by the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory in 1982, signing the Bar Roll in 1993.

Michael was the foundation member of Carrington Chambers Barristers which commenced in 2006.

Michael is a member of the Law Society of South Australia and the Australian Lawyers Alliance.

Michael practices in a wide range of matters including Civil litigation, Personal Injury and WorkCover disputes.
