Queensland, the tropical state of Australia, will host this year’s highly anticipated National Conference in picturesque Port Douglas.

2019 marks 25 years since the ALA (previously known as the APLA) began, and National Conference 2019 will be the focus of our celebrations. Register now to be part of the festivities and to take advantage of our diverse CLE program.

This conference is the premier event for lawyers, academics and other professionals who are dedicated to protecting and promoting justice, freedom and the rights of the individual.

This function will be held on Thursday 24 October from 6:00pm at Poolside, Sheraton Mirage Port Douglas. Guests will be provided with canapés and beverages for 2 hours.

This event will be held at the Glade Pavilion at Sheraton Mirage Port Douglas from 6:30pm, be prepared an evening of spectacular food, beverages and entertainment. Pre dinner drinks will commence at 6:30PM in the exhibitor area with staff to direct attendees to the pavilion at 7:00PM.

The Tony George Band will be the evening's entertainment and are sure to get everyone onto the dance floor.

Civil Justice Award

Each year the ALA presents a National Civil Justice Award to a deserving recipient in accordance with the outlined criteria.

The Award provides a platform of recognition to an individual who has fought for justice. The Award generates significant media attention and provides additional opportunities for the recipient to raise further awareness about the issues for which they have fought, both within the legal fraternity and with the wider public.

Member of the Year Award

The Donoghue v Stevenson Award for Outstanding Contribution to the ALA is awarded annually at the National Conference. It is for members whose efforts have been pivotal to the ongoing success of the ALA in its role of protecting and promoting justice, freedom and the rights of the individual.

The 2019 National Conference will be held at the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort, Port Douglas, located approximately one hour’s drive north of Cairns in Far North Queensland. The Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort, Port Douglas is the only international five star resort in Far North Queensland that is located on the magnificent Four Mile Beach. The famous natural beauty of the region is in easy reach, including Mossman Gorge, the world heritage listed Daintree Rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef.

After completing a A$43 million refurbishment to accommodation rooms and restaurants in 2016, the hotel is a revitalised beachfront luxury resort surrounded by 147 hectares of lush tropical gardens, 2 hectares of sparkling saltwater lagoon pools, an 18-hole golf course and 5-star resort amenities. The newly transformed 5-star rooms and suites offer captivating views of the lagoon pools, tropical gardens and select rooms feature private balconies.

Accommodation is available at the meeting venue, the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort, Port Douglas. The Sheraton is located on Four Mile Beach and has direct beach access. All accommodation rooms were renovated in 2016.

A special meeting accommodation rate has been negotiated for delegates wishing to stay at the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort, Port Douglas. This is a “Resort view or Lagoon view Room "Run of House” rate. All accommodation rooms have views of lagoons or tropical gardens. Each is serviced daily, receives a nightly turn down and contains two double beds or one king size bed, with a spacious sitting area and separate bathroom. Rooms with two double beds are limited and are available on a request basis only.

The ALA will endeavour to sell the cancelled accommodation to another delegate. If we are unable to, the delegate wishing to cancel accommodation will be subject to 100% of the accommodate rate.

No shows are subject to 100% of the accommodate rate.

Notes

Majority of accommodation are king bed configuration. If you require a twin room please specify during registration and email conferences@lawyersalliance.com.au.

If sharing a room with someone (other than a partner), please state their name under 'share with' option when completing the registration. Please ensure that one of the delegates secure, and pays for accommodation.

Upon check in, a credit card will be required and a $1.00 bond per night will be held on the card. Delegates will settle their account according to the hotel terms and conditions.

Prior to confirming and paying for a flight reservation online, please ensure you read the Terms and Conditions of travel, as flights are usually non-refundable once booked. ALA National Conference commences on Thurs 24 October at 6.00pm, and concludes on Saturday 24 October at 3.30pm.

Please note that Cairns Airport is approximately a one hour drive from Port Douglas via shuttle coach, or 45 minutes by private car.

Transfer Information

Kindly note that the cost of transfers between Cairns Airport and Port Douglas and return are not included. However, bookings and direct payment can be made as follows:
