Overview
The Australian Lawyers Alliance SA State Conference, to be held Friday 15 September 2017 at St Mark's College, North Adelaide, is a must for all Plaintiff Injury Lawyers.
The conference is attended by plaintiff and defendant lawyers as well as representatives of the various regulators and insurers. The conference attracts up to 6 CLE pts.
PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
- Client Capacity from a Medical and Legal Perspective. When is it appropriate to seek the appointment of a Litigation Guardian and/or Manager and Trustee of a compensation fund? What are the considerations for a lawyer and for the Court to consider when presented with a client that may have capacity issues or is liable to undue influence? Maria Demosthenous and Emma Scamps will explore the legal and ethical considerations surrounding these issues from a legal and medical perspective. (Mandatory Ethics session).
- Case Law Update - David Blyth, Anthony Mason Chambers
- Assessing a Product Failure, Is There Liability? - Ted Dohrmann of Dohrmann Consulting will present a practical guide to the initial assessment of standard product liability claims and explain how an expert engineer can assist.
- Medical Negligence Update - Jo-Anne Deuter, Anthony Mason Chambers. A review of the decision in Mules v Ferguson - a discussion of Delayed Diagnosis, the Defence of the competent professional practice defence, and the issue of causation - why the fact still matters.
