2023 Review of the Workers Compensation Scheme

18th Sep 2023

NEW SOUTH WALES

The ALA was invited to make a submission to the NSW Parliament Legislative Council Standing Committee on Law and Justice’s 2023 Review of the Workers Compensation Scheme (Scheme).

The ALA’s 2023 submission focuses on:

  • our support for a review of the legislation underpinning the Scheme with a view to a single piece of legislation for the Scheme being produced;
  • the need for the current operational structure of the system to be reviewed;
  • performance of the regulator (SIRA); and
  • recent updates in the workers compensation space.

All evidence submitted to the 2022 Review of the Workers Compensation Scheme – which did not produce a final report before NSW Parliament was prorogued ahead of the 2023 NSW State Election – has been referred to this new review. That includes the ALA’s written submission, NSW Branch Committee member Shane Butcher’s testimony at a public hearing on behalf of the ALA, and our additional written evidence.
