ALA welcomes VIC Royal Commission

5th Dec 2018

The Australian Lawyers Alliance (ALA) has welcomed the Royal Commission into the conduct of the police force and its use of a criminal defence barrister as an informant.

“This is alarming conduct by both the barrister involved and the police force,” said Mr Tom Ballantyne, VIC State President, ALA.

“The actions of the lawyer are unprecedented and undermine confidence in the legal profession and the rule of law. Likewise there are serious questions to be asked about the conduct of police.”

“We welcome the decision to hold a Royal Commission - it is a sign that the Victorian government takes the administration of justice seriously.”
