19th Apr 2023

The ALA has made a submission to the Attorney-General’s Department regarding its review into an appropriate cost model for Commonwealth anti-discrimination laws. In our submission, the ALA reiterated our support for an asymmetrical (equal access) cost model. The ALA has also joined over 70 other stakeholders in signing a joint statement to the Attorney-General’s Department in support of the asymmetrical (equal access) cost model.

Barrister Stella Gold represented the ALA on Friday 14 April 2023 at a virtual roundtable for legal services groups hosted by the Attorney General’s Department. Stakeholders, including the ALA, were overwhelmingly in support of the asymmetrical (equal access) cost model. There was also an acknowledgement from legal services groups that fee for service or ‘no win, no fee’ arrangements are important options for those bringing discrimination claims.
