Workers’ Compensation and Rehabilitation and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2024 (Qld)

14th May 2024

QUEENSLAND

The ALA has made a submission to the Queensland Parliament Education, Employment, Training and Skills Committee’s Workers’ Compensation and Rehabilitation and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2024 (Qld) (‘Bill’), which was introduced into the Queensland Parliament on 17 April 2024.

ALA members have been involved in stakeholder consultations leading up to this Bill being introduced into the Queensland Parliament, including attending multiple meetings of the Workers Compensation Scheme Review’s Stakeholder Reference Group and providing a submission to the Office of Industrial Relations on the Consultation Draft of the Bill in March 2024.

In our submission to this current inquiry, the ALA focuses on the proposed amendments to section 11 of the Workers’ Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003 (Qld). ALA members consider that the current drafting of the Bill does not allow sufficient clarity around access to statutory benefits for gig workers, statutory rights which the ALA considers to be of vital importance for gig workers and their families.

The ALA has been invited to appear next week at the Education, Employment, Training and Skills Committee’s public hearing regarding this Bill.
